Presenting an Eagle Feather Flown in Space

· Personal,Reflection

I had the honor of presenting the team at the Citizen Potawatomi Nation Eagle Aviary with an eagle feather that flew aboard a recent space mission. The feather belonged to Big Sky (Kche-Gizchek), an eagle with special significance to the Aviary and a fitting connection to the mission’s spirit of advancing nations. (Not to mention her perfectly apt name.)

One thing I miss from my previous role is being closely involved in moments like this—working with items traveling to space that carry deep significance and each a unique story. Even so, stepping away has reaffirmed my belief that decisions should be made with purpose—be it for growth, to support others (or both, in this case)—and that intentional, thoughtful choices are an essential trait of good leadership. It’s a principle I hold close, and one I hope continues to resonate.

A special thanks to the Aviary team for the incredible work they do in preserving and honoring these awe-inspiring creatures. Also, to my friends and ex-colleagues at Axiom Space who helped make this happen. Moments like this remind me of the power of connection: between culture and innovation, tradition and progress, and the values that guide us forward.

The eagle feather presentation was also featured in the Hownikan magazine.
